The Norfolk Broads Classic SUP race on Saturday 23rd June proved to be a classic. The windy weather forced the organisers (Martham SUP www.marthamboats.com) to shorten the course from 13 miles to 7miles. The start at Ludham Bridge was into the wind and a fast flowing current under the bridge. Over 20 racers lined up and all got off to a fast start. Racers came from all over the UK including CentralSUP in Birmingham (www.centralsup.com) and RED paddleboards in Devon (www.redpaddleco.com ) The race was well supported with the Hemsby inshore lifeboat crew providing boat cover and spectators on the banks, bridges and passing boats. The competitors went past Norfolk Broads landmarks such as St. Benet's Abbey and under Potter Heigham bridge. With the wind behind over the last 4 miles some fast times were achieved. The race finished at Martham with food, drinks and live bands continuing into the evening. An excellent day definitely to be repeated next year so get training! Many thanks to Ian and Helen for organising the event. Mahalo.
